List of staffing concerns

Resources

1. Lack of IV Pumps

2. Lack of IV Channels (due to increased number of ICU and Acute Care Boarders)

3. Lack of portable telemetry monitors

4. Lack of patient transport monitors

5. Lack of cords such as pulse ox, blood pressure, and five lead telemetry cords

6. EKG machines that are outdated and often faulty creating delays in obtaining timely EKG's

7. Rooms being cleaned by ER staff on daily basis due to minimal staffing in EVS. Staff concerned about their safety and patients safety in regards to disease prevention and hygiene.

Staffing

1. No hazard pay or additional compensation for working throughout covid 19 pandemic

2. No incentive or plans for staff retention despite critical staffing needs

2. Nurses caring for critical care patients for extended periods of time with inappropriate nurse to patient ratios (4 to 1)

3. Triage nurses overseeing increased and unsafe numbers of patients in the waiting room with no increased resources

Leadership

1. Staff not being compensated properly for their overtime and critical staffing

2. Staff having to double and triple check their paychecks and spend unnecessary amounts of time sending emails to have corrections made

3. Multiple managers including pediatric manager making changes to staff schedules without notice creating concerns surrounding work life balance

4. Staff being compensated at times weeks late for their worked hours and overtime

Caring for Boarders

1. Inpatient leaders not rounding sufficiently on patients despite patient holding in the ER for hours and days at a time

2. Hospitalists and Critical Care Providers not rounding sufficiently on boarders within the ER

3. Critical care patients not receiving optimal care due to lack of physician rounding and critical care nursing skill

4. Critically ill patients (i.e. vented patients) remaining in the ER for 100+ hrs due to delay in ICU beds and staffing
