I am retired and paying for county health and dental insurance. It is already expensive - $417 a month, where the county pays the other half. I can't afford an increase of the size that has been quoted. I worked hard for the county and continue to work hard as a substitute clerk. We are the underpinnings of a large organization that has the ability to do the right thing, especially for us lower paid workers. Please continue to make Multnomah County a viable place to work. We have sufferred through many cut backs. Piling more costs on us is disrespectful and negligent. I don't mind a small increase in costs, just not what is being proposed.

I am library worker with a growing family. When we received a much needed, though much delayed wage increase in the last contract, we were also burdened with more work. HR told us that our previous work wasn't worth $15 an hour, and so we should do more to be worth the increase. This wage floor is an incomplete though necessary step to correcting for the insult and injury of the previous contract. Housing and other costs are rising at more than 2.2% a year too. I was priced out of my previous apartment by 30% rent increases over two years. Those who make the least in the county cannot rely on the disingenuous equality of percentile increases.

Local 88 regularly works with all county departments to keep our workplaces efficient and equitable. We shouldn’t settle for less in a race to the bottom like so many local governments have been pressured into doing. Working people deserve better.

I work everyday with families as a community health worker always trying my very best to serve and support our underprivileged communities. I love the work I do and it breaks my heart when I cant do much about their needs but I always think to myself, "even the smallest act of justice and support" matters for this family".
But I also need the support and fair living wage for me and family so I can continue doing what I love the most and that's is serve others, serve my brother, my sister and my family too!!

Our wages are not keeping up with the actual cost of living. Health care premiums already eat a big enough portion of what many of us earn as part-time employees. Please, let’s resolve the contract negotiations in good faith and in an equitable manner. Let us know we’re valued.

Our contract expired in July. We are what makes you look good, but we need and deserve a living wage and healthcare, in a county where the cost of rent and housing is increasing so fast, people are out on the streets. Come to the table and respect our needs.
