Many rail trails elsewhere are equestrian friendly, why not this one?

This trail is a great opportunity for equestrians to enjoy a safe trail. There is no reason that they should be excluded. I have been looking forward to riding this trail since the trains stopped and now to find out it is out of bounds for horses is very disheartening. This is a rural setting with many riders that would enjoy the opportunity to travel away from traffic.

This trail can accomadate equestrians as well as other out door enthusiasts safely. Horse people pay taxes, we contribute to our communities with the provision and use of goods and services. Horses are used for therapy, for children and adults, for people with disabilities and for entertainment. We deserve to enjoy our animals in safety on maintained trails away from traffic.

I Know at the beginning when we all had to sign the petition to be able to use the Rail trail everyone who wanted it could sign most all in B.C were horse owners andd we all wanted it so we could use it as well so we all signed for it. And now that we have it the rules are changing whyy ? Everyone who voted should be able to use it6 we all pay our taxes and we all have rights and i dont think things should be changing now and horse people should have every right to using it. I supose that all people using it should be allowed and enjoy it :)

In the 2014 Trail Impact Assessment report I see no justification for restricting equestrian uses. Perhaps a rationale for such an exclusion are attempted elsewhere? There are many highly successful examples of multi-use trails across Canada which happily include and promote equestrians as core users, not the least of which is the Trans Canada Trail. I have professionally designed some of them! As the management strategy for the Okanagan Trail evolves, I know of no reasons why responsible use by equestrians can be excluded! I'd suggest that the trick is to lobby for legitimate INclusion as part of a recognizable equine organization such as the BC HorseCouncil or the Back Country Horsemen of BC. Perhaps the Trans Canada Trail Foundation can help by sharing their experiences in building and maintaining thousands of kilometers of trail which include walking/hiking, cycling, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and paddling as preferred core uses.

Trails are for everyone as long as riders and drivers act in a safe manner. As in no Galloping down the trails or Galloping allowed only in designated areas.

It'd be really great for the local horse community to also have access to the trail. If dogs are allowed I don't see why horses shouldn't also be welcomed. While most pet owners are responsible, dogs are sometimes disruptive to other trail users and their owners not responsible for picking up after them and keeping their pet on leash (so other people and wild life aren't bothered). I don't see how horses would have any more of a "negative" impact than that on other trail users. Set rules for everyone, and I don't see why anyone should be excluded. It's a great trail that has had so much work put into it, the more people and animals who can enjoy it the better!

We need more parks with multi use trails! Not many places left safe to ride anymore.. Roads are just crazy

agreed....there is no reason horses shouldn't be allowed on the trail....it can be downright dangerous to ride the roads the people drive their cars....to say we can't ride the trail is ridiculous....it needs to be a place that we can all enjoy, whether its walking, biking, or horseback riding
