All girls and women deserve the same opportunities as boys and men! Its crazy that we're still in an age where girls are relocated to the closet at the end of the hall to change when the referee change rooms are all occupied.. I assumed over a decade after I stopped playing men's hockey we'd have a solution for this, as so much of the team bonding happens before and after games and practices!

As a female hockey player myself, I'm all for supporting more opportunities for women in hockey (and all sports for that matter)! I remember when playing for the guys' teams having to dress for games in an empty closet at times when I was at smaller rinks and all the referee dressing rooms were occupied. It always sucked because so much of team bonding happens before and after games/practice. At times the coaching staff would forget to send someone to get me before making their pre-game speech/prep even though I was the 1 who was helping out the guys' teams to fill-in at tournaments or when people were injured. Tbh though I was more than happy for the opportunity and extra ice-time and to play with the guys rep team in my area, it felt like a badge of honor to be good enough to share the ice with them.. but I share this because there's young women in places that don't even have enough players for women's teams and that's all they have and what they experience all the time. Let's make this amazing game more accessible to all girls and young women!
