I support equal access for teachers and employees of school divisions. Stop the monopoly. If one education association is given access to schools/employees, then all should be allowed. SB1236 will promote competition and equal access for education associations.
Currently, many school divisions across Virginia promote policies that favor the NEA (the national teacher's union) and its subsidiaries. For example, in Virginia Beach a policy was created by the School Board that excluded a new education association that had been formed in the City. This new association's members included teachers and employees of VBCPS but also allowed parents and students to be members. Since the association allowed students and parents, VBCPS policy prohibited the organization from having the same access to our schools as the VBEA (a subsidiary of the NEA). 3 VB Board members are also active members of the VBEA and fought to have the policy changed to disqualify other associations from having access.
NEA affiliates have access to teacher mailboxes, new employee orientations, positions on committees, and more.
No school division should be forced to allow these organizations in their schools; however, if one organization is allowed then all should be allowed. School Boards should not be able to pick favorites in order to align with their political agendas.

I have finalized the formal letter addressed to the Virginia Beach School Board regarding the current access policies. This document will be delivered to board members during the upcoming public session to ensure the issue remains on the agenda.

The volume of support has signaled to local representatives that current access policies require a formal review. I am now coordinating with policy analysts to draft a legislative brief that outlines the specific language needed for SB1236 enforcement.

Same with PTA vs PTO. The PTA is a political organization. Parents and teachers should be free to convert to a non political PTO if they choose to do so.
If the NEA truly knew the sloppy work ethics some of the local candidates they endorse practice, they would (hopefully) be appalled and embarrassed.
The VBEA has become far too political and confident. We need other voices and choices for our teachers in Virginia Beach!
The VBEA is partisan and does not represent the best interests of our teachers and administrators. Our teachers work hard and deserve to have a choice. It’s past time to make this happen. She with your friends and family.....please
We need more voices to be heard at schools- unfair to limit it to NEA or their local NEA Chapters. Diversity is needed

This is one of the craziest things I have seen. As a military family that has moved coast to coast I have never seen only one exclusive group have 100% exclusive access in schools like this. Exclusive is NOT good.
