There is no rhyme or reason to the way people are being scheduled. The CA states the maximum minimum hours is 82 hours before it becomes over time. However the recent trend is to cap people off at 77 hours and then use our mileage and travel time to make up the difference. We are paid poorly enough now for mileage and travel time, that we shouldn't be manipulated into using it to compensate for our lack of wages. Vacation time is a joke. If a person can get approved for vacation time (which seemingly few are) people are being forced to take when they are told they can have it and not when they actually want it. That is unless you are a supervisor as they seem to have an endless supply of vacation days. Not to mention that two weeks (minimum vacation time) is 14 days, not the 10 we get manipulated into being allowed to have.

I do not blame all the schedulers. There are a few who know about trying to work together. We never have enough staff which is perpetually annoying to the clients and the psws. They treat their new psws with such disrespect that they quit.We have new rules in the contract but management always finds their way around it. Also when we do get a decent scheduler they put them in another area. Viscious circle.

As I look back at the 9 and a half years I have but in with the Red Cross and subsiquent named companies, I am in awe of the downward trends......lack of communications is the worst.....right hand know not what the right one is doing!...sad.....how can we work as a team if this is still going on!......not much loyalty will come from the workers when not kept up to date on what is happening to the company and it's finances....how can a young single person ever hope to have job security with an ever changing set of focuses etc......never know if the current government will all of a sudden change it's funding and decide we get less for home care and yet they profess it is their main target.....I do no longer believe what we here in the press!...politics is at the heart of this mess and it will not get any better until we all mass togerther and let the public know what is going on out there.......I personally would like to work another few years, however working conditions are still archaic and we are not making progress as promised by our union.....you can't get funding to make changes ....what will happen in the next few years is anyone's guess......more seniors are going to need help to stay in their homes....there are not spaces in hospitals and not sufficient nursing and retirement beds either! It saddens me to not say I enjoy work like I used to ......things have to get better or we will not be able to encourage young workers to join our forces....the old ones will be leaving and no replacements coming up!....We need to look abroad to other countries to see how they can deal with the same problems we have and stop trying to reinvent the wheel!

We need to be able to have a proper rest period between shifts. Why is it okay to schedule me from 6 pm to 12 midnight and back in at 6 am on my weekend to work, and of course we don't include the time it takes to drive to work and home again even if I finished at 10 pm I won't get an 8 hour break between shifts nor do I get an 11 hour rest period in 24 as I am available at 6 am though the week including Friday. Why do the labor laws not apply to us?

The GMFT avail hours at 45 M-F and 20 hours every other weekend are abusive that 45 should include your weekend to work so we can take a day off during the week. The workforce is burning out. They need to advertise for more workers and in the Ad itself tell them they can work just weekends or just weekdays don't be so ridged offer later starts for some shifts have a 10 to 6 shift a 7am to 3pm a partime 4pm 8pm shift, along with our Am/PM shifts on weekends.
reoffer the choice of which Geos other than your own that u want to be called for, specific Geos. Be honest. In our area the Geos have been mislabelled , made larger and left that way, it has been reported,as workers are not being informed it leads to distrust.
Scheduling is a mess they have gone from scheduling clients as permanent to a as one scheduler put it the "Merry go Round" approach. Which is going over terribly with clients and workers. It leads the schedulers who work constantly to reschedule clients constantly which does not give them the time to properly look at scheduling so they can schedule as best as possible well in advance and it does not tell the company where more workers are needed to be hired because the office can't keep control. Offer workers from different areas kilometers from their home base if they agree to willing work in another territory permanently than where they live, make it known that this is available
Their contract with CCAC needs to be looked at and renegotiated. The targets that CCAC have set up are unrealistic for any company. We should not be penalized for not being able to take a client on we should work with other agencies more. If we can realistically only do an a.m. shift then give the PM shift to the next company down the line. Without it being a penalty to our company because of a unrealistic contract with CCAC. Join our Union and work alongside us when approaching the government for help. When we were looking for the raise, if our company had

I have been voicing my opinion on this for over a year on deaf ears and to a local union that does not care. I have also been told that I should have scheduled a half hour into my hours of availability and in doing so I would be working 7-7 a 12 hour day with a half hour break what happened to the Ontario labour laws or don't they apply for home care. Have been told that my break is when I am driving to clients oops patients homes.

I agree with this statement, you would think that the employer is spending their own money. The employer NEVER thinks about burn out or the trouble NOT granting a well earned vacation to an employee and their families !!!
The employer DOES not respect the
rights of their workers when it comes to a number of things in scheduling,1) non-smokers SHOULD NOT have to get a doctors note 2)PSW's should NOT have to work with client's that have over 16 or more do not books (there is a reason for that)3) when PSW'S are asked to work out of area they should automatically be compensated by travel pay

Scheduling is such a big problem and there needs to be a change in the system that Care Partners use. There are companies that offer software applications that can work with our companies needs in a much more efficient way. It's time for Care Partners to act now before the loss of valuable employees result in loss of clients and ultimately a loss of business
