I was a student at ESUHSD, but now I go to CUHSD, where we take English 4. It is challenging enough to further our knowledge and comprehension, but it doesn't give the stress of an AP english class. East Side would greatly benefit from an English 4 class.

In my stance, I will still take AP Lit even if there is a choice between ERWC and English 4. But I understand that some people may not think in the same way as I do and I understand. People are different with different taste and needs; people grow differently as well. The school should embrace that diversity of its students.

This is outrageous! I've always thought it was the norm for seniors to be offered English 4. I hope everything goes well PHHS.

I had the good fortune to have taught English 4 classes many years ago. It was one of my most rewarding experiences w/ groups of fenominal students who today are very successful. It is a great course that should be taught.

English 4 should definitely be an option for senior year. With English 4 as an option, students will be able to show their potential and grow as a person without the stress of an AP course or the monotony of ERWC. I was in one of the last classes to have English 4 as an option, and I remember when they began to roll out ERWC, everyone, including teachers and students, disapproved of it. High school students need to have literature courses available to them in order to have a full, well-rounded education, and English 4 gives them that opportunity. Not everyone is that hardcore about English to take 4AP, but that does not mean they should be relegated to a remedial writing course either. – Catherine, c/o 2013

ENGLISH 4 :)

I'm a junior at Independence High School that sympathizes with the struggles of these PHHS students. I too would have liked a middle-ground option for my senior year (I chose ERWC over APLit) but such an option was unavailable for me as well. I fully support Piedmont Hills' desire for the inclusion of an English 4 course with consideration to the varying degrees of academic capability across their student body. - Phil, an AP student of Independence HS's Class of 2017
