Because ERWC and AP Literature are very much on opposites sides of the English spectrum, it would be more suitable for prospective students to have the option to take English 4, a course that meets in the middle.

Our students have a right to take a grade level appropriate English class. ERWC was designed to serve one very specific population. It is not appropriate for ALL seniors! Students who are past the basic skills covered in ERWC should have the right to take English 4: a college preparatory course fully aligned with Common Core standards. Students should not be forced to choose between 2 extremes: ERWC or AP literature. English 4 meets the needs of a great many of our students and they should have the right to take that course.
