Enfield Council should drop its blanket plan to leave parks unlocked at night

Unlock the parks - great idea. This petition is stupid. You are all a bunch of sados.

Our parks need protecting.

Locking the gates sends a message even if it does not always keep people out. The failure to lock gates at night will invite trouble and be ueconomic from the point of view of vandalism.

The council paper proposing this is pathetically short of relevant evidence. Simple commonsense says that incidents will be more likely, and just one major incident could wipe out any saving.

The cost of repairing damage caused by vandalism will be greater than the cost of locking up.

Leaving the gates open invites trouble and damage with a negligible gain at all in financial terms.

This seems certain to lead to more vandalism and other anti-social behaviour.

Leaving gates unlocked at night is an invitation to vandals and sends all the wrong signals about the value we place on our Parks' assets. Let's have a common sense approach to what is obviously a cost-cutting exercise.

As one of the volunteers at Palmers Greenery cafe, I am horrified that the work we are doing for community cohesion could be jeopardised by this ill thought out proposal. If we are doing our bit, the Council need to do theirs.

I appreciate that Enfield Council is struggling with huge budget cuts but £26,000 is such a small amount to keep our parks secure. People really do care about their parks and open spaces.

So that the vandals can mess things up for the majority, by leaving gates unlocked. Then the families and young children cannot use the parks. then they fall into disrepair and then you can build on them. And we do not have open spaces.

The Council (Cllr Bond) is already aware of our feelings regarding the non-locking of Aldersbrook Park, as we (Friends of Aldersbrook) have presented a paper to him at a meeting on site. However, I believe that he has already made up his mind to save a very small amount of money in the big scheme of things by leaving parks unlocked without considering the impact on residents or park assets.

This is an alarming decision for Enfield council to make. Not only will it encourage groups of youngsters to meet up and no doubt cause damage to the park and children's play areas.

I strongly support this petition. Why is the Council so against the Friends Groups, notably Grovelands, where Bond refuses to meet with the Committee?

If you leave it open all night then it will be used for drugs and drunks! Who will clean all of that rubbish up every day, not Enfield Council is it?

This is a risk to the security of our homes!
