In June 1987 the United Nations put into force its Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading treatment or Punishment. 146 countries around the world including most Southern African countries have ratified this convention.
This petition urges the Zimbabwe government to uphold its citizens' Human Rights by ratifying this very important international convention. We believe this is a necessary step in outlawing Torture in Zimbabwe. Currently in Zimbabwe (2011) there are no laws that specifically outlaw or define Torture.
It is common knowledge that ZANU PF uses organized Violence and Torture against all opposition. We believe free and fair elections in Zimbabwe can only take place when everyone feels safe.
We also urge the International Community not to forget the people of Zimbabwe in their quest for Freedom.
Rusununguko MuZimbabwe (Freedom in Zimbabwe)
The government continues to ignore the absence of laws against torture in our country. Take this link and email your local representative to demand they raise this issue in the next session. We need to keep the pressure on until they acknowledge how urgent this is for our safety.
August 2, 2011
We hit a significant turn in momentum today and it shows that people are paying attention to the lack of legal protections in our country. Contact your local representatives now to demand that they put this issue on the official agenda. Post this link to your Facebook page to make sure our pressure on the government stays constant.

How can we call ourselves a democracy when people are still being treated this way? This needs to stop now.
