In June 1987 the United Nations put into force its Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading treatment or Punishment. 146 countries around the world including most Southern African countries have ratified this convention. This petition urges the Zimbabwe government to uphold its citizens' Human Rights by ratifying this very important international convention. We believe this is a necessary step in outlawing Torture in Zimbabwe. Currently in Zimbabwe (2011) there are no laws that specifically outlaw or define Torture. It is common knowledge that ZANU PF uses organized Violence and Torture against all opposition. We believe free and fair elections in Zimbabwe can only take place when everyone feels safe. We also urge the International Community not to forget the people of Zimbabwe in their quest for Freedom. Rusununguko MuZimbabwe (Freedom in Zimbabwe)
