The dog featured belongs to me. I have two Master Hunter passes on him. I also have titled 4 labs to UDX , Rally Master, and agility titles . I,would have loved to go for a championship but absolutely will not put weight on my dogs to achieve this.

I showed my male in AKC conformation at correct weight and fit condition (81 lbs.) and although we earned 4 points owner handled, he looks ridiculously small compared to the other males that weighed about 20 lbs. more than him.

The current style of show Labrador is a joke: those dogs are too out of shape to do nearly anything. What a shame. Let’s bring the breed back to vibrancy and health!

I compete in hunt tests with a gal who tried showing her champion bloodline Lab and was told by a judge "put an extra 10 pounds on him and he will start winning" this was 15 years ago. She stopped competing in co formation right then and there. Absolutely disheartening what has happened to the Labradors.

Please adhere to the standards of the LRC and pass this. Not doing so is not good for the dog involved, but for the entire Labrador Retriever breed AND the reputable breeders of them who do extensive research and hold themselves to a higher standard for the breed.

I was at a JH test, there was a dog that was in "show weight" and was already a very large dog, massively overdone. The poor dog was so exhausted once out of the water and sat at the shoreline for 2mins to catch its breath then did complete the test...that is not healthy nor in working condition, i was concerned for the dog as well as others.

Bringing the labrador back to proper weight will ensure an all-around dog that can hunt in the field, show in the ring, and overall be a great family dog again.

Making Labrador Retrievers in true working condition become more readily able to be competitive in the show ring provides the opportunity for more field titled Labrador Retrievers to achieve a conformation Championship. Those truly dedicated to field work are not willing to add a significant amount of weight to their dogs to make them competitive in the show ring because the dog would no longer be able to safely and efficiently do field work.

I show a different breed because when we went looking a hunting partner the labs we saw all looked short and fat. The lab I had growing up 35 years ago looks like the breed I have now. Lean, muscled, able to perform to its natural ability. That’s what we wanted. The labs of today are not what they were. Every time I go to a confirmation show, all I see are overweight labs. It’s not fair to the dog.
Its unhealthy and needs to stop!!
