On December 17th, 2009, my friend Courtney Stevenson was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. During their relationship, her boyfriend was abusive towards her. The abuse eventually ended up in her being shot in the head by him outside of her own home. In November, he had set fire to her car as a warning sign to her. The cops say they found her in a patch of ivy when he killed her. She was a victim of domestic violence. This needs to end NOW! The sad truth is, there aren't a lot of laws to protect victims of domestic violence. That's why I'm creating this petition. I want men and women who are convicted of domestic violence of the 3rd degree to get more than just 48 hours in jail in the state on Alabama. I want them to wear electronic ankle bracelets for six months so the police can keep track of them so they don't go near the person they abused and I want it to be doubled if it is violated. You see, when Courtney's car was set on fire, her ex was put in jail when he set fire to her car, but was released on bond. More needs to happen to people like him. I plan on contacting senators once I feel like there are enough signatures. Until then, please take the time to sign this petition.
