As long as I can remember, I have been captured and enthralled by the beauty and the grace of cranes. I am appalled by the hunt (more like mass slaughter) of sandhill cranes. this is intolerable, in 14 states, these stunning birds are shot out of the air just because they are curious of a decoy that they think is one of them. We have seen over-hunting take Whooping cranes to the bring of extinction. I would be horrified to see this happen to the Sandhill crane. Please, sign this petition and save these innocent creatures of beauty.
people have had fewer than HALF the migratory cranes we usually have, and the reason the quotas haven’t been met in KY is there aren’t ENOUGH to have a hunt. Lack of abundance indicates a serious decline in the population.
Those states have not factored in those birds’ natural mortality rates, the birds do not mate every year, and the survival rates of the young already have the birds at zero, maybe negative, population growth.

it is just cruel. these birds are intelligent and mate for life and it breaks my heart to think of them being shot just like that. leave them alone.
