Well, I agree with this to an extent. I am not wholeheartedly for abolishing summer homework in its entirety. Summer homework has its benefits. It helps students retain what they have learned over the course of the previous school year, and prepares them for the next one. After all, according to a study, two months of reading and math skills learned over the course of the previous year dwindle over the summer months. I also have many pieces of anecdotal evidence to support the fact that many students forget what they have learned after many days of disengagement from learning and maintaining these skills.
However, I do not believe that summer work should be mandatory. Summer work, I believe, should be a voluntary option for students. Summer is generally regarded as vacation time for students across the United States and should be kept as such. Mandatory summer work provides added stress to a student that believes that these three months away from a desk should be spent stress-free. However, if students wish to practice their skills during the summer, summer homework assignments should be provided at the student's request. That is a compromise that I am willing to propose instead of this absolute abolishment because summer homework has its pros and cons, and if we are going to achieve change, we are going to need to get support from all sides of the spectrum.
I added my signature not because I agreed fully but because I believe that this petition is worth talking about. There should be a conversation between parents, teachers, school board members, school administrators, and most importantly, the students themselves, on the implementation of summer homework. Just dealing with extreme proposals will anger one side and please another, especially if that other side is not represented. However, if we get together and we have a serious discussion on this issue, we can create a compromise solution that will obtain a majority consensus across the spectrum.

These kids will be spending all year working all year at a job. Let them enjoy being kids. No summer school work!

It is unfair to assign us work over our summer vacation (keyword: VACATION), especially work to be done by certain dates. Many of us are away from home during the summer, with little to no access to computers and resources, and barely any time. The amount of stress that is put on us to complete an assignment by a certain time whilst being occupied with other activities is very tiring. If most other states have abolished summer work, it would be smart for us to join in and do the same.

I completely agree with this stance. The summer work given by teachers to their students to complete by certain dates. This is not right to have stress given to us while trying to enjoy the summer and a break. Their are only 2 states in the US that have summer work. The other states have already seen the back fire of summer work. Why can't all?
