Summer work is pretty much pointless. It adds to the stresses of just starting a school year. And the point of summer is to relax. Not to do work that most of the time we don't learn from in the real world.

Even though they ended summer work where I live,
It's necessary I sign this, because everything said is true, our children need to develop imagination and exercise as summer work does not help that.

Even if summer work isn't ended, it should at least be eased. I think adults have forgotten what it's like to be a child. Just a few short years ago, never mind going back to when parents were students, the work load during the school year wasn't what it is today, the curriculum wasn't what it is today, and the summer work load wasn't near what it is today. These kids basically have school year round and during the school year, they get little break from school work even after the school day is over. It has been proven time and time again that children need free time to develop imagination, to move and exercise, etc. Their brains need several hours every day to process what they've learned. Summer vacation should be just that: vacation. I rarely see my niece and when I do, I'm not seeing her. She had her nose stuck in a book or glued to the computer because of her seemingly endless summer assignments. She sits through parties and celebrations doing school work while everyone else eats, swims, plays, socializes. It's sickens me. We're hindering our kids in so many ways. By trying to get them to learn more, they're learning less and developing a hatred for learning. What sickens me more is educators and far too many parents, for some reason, can't see this. Our schools need major changes, back to the way things used to be. This at least would be a small step in the right direction.
