PLC is not appropriate during a shortened school year.

I see this as an alternative to extending the 2014/15 school year into the 2015 Summer in order to make up for lost time during the BC teachers strike.

Personal Learning Communities should be an ongoing BEST PRACTICES peer to peer action based learning that takes place on a continuum...not just 2 every 2 weeks. How about asking your colleagues...."I have this situation in my classroom...,how is it that you are successfully addressing this? What are some options?" I draw from my peers every day and ask how I can better deal with a variety of situations. Performance is about being able to expose others to your strengths and continue to ask those that have strengths on how it is that you can improve your professional situation. This creates a continuum of professional learning and creates a collaborative, connected professional network where you feel supported.

It is aborhorrent that instructional time is taken away from students s teachers can "collaborate" - collaboration is ongoing. There shold also be accountability measures attached to this as another parent said

WHile I believe that it's important for educators to meet regularly to plan, this should be done after school dismissal time. Parents and senior students should've been a full part of the consultaltion process prior to implementing PLCs.

Working in the school system, I saw that these PLC days were largely a waste of time - for teachers AND students

It's too disruptive to the week. If it was all in one day, that would be better. I think they will need ALL of that classroom time to make up for lost time due to the strike.

It is a waste of educational time for our kids. We were also promised updates on how the PLC was benefiting everyone. Has anyone received these updates? I haven't - GET RID OF IT MS. ELWOOD

I'm not a parent of district 71, but my Francophone child lives in the Comox Valley (École Au cœur de l'île) so I know and see first hand how idiotic this early dismissal is! I would detest this if I had to suffer through such a random disruption!!

Never agreed with this. I don't believe the children make up this lost time.
