We are coming up to 16 weeks of paying for programs. Early dismissal is hard for work schedules.

The loss of this "block" of instructional time has a negative effect on students who benefit from routine and structure at school, and is especially hard on vulnerable and at-risk learners. We have heard loud and clear that there are inadequate numbers of specialist teachers, such as learning assistance teachers, school counsellors, speech and language pathologists, etc. It is critical that our district maximize the hours that these qualified and experienced staff have direct contact time with students who need their help. Early dismissals undermine this and while SD71 may not have funds to hire more specialists, it is within the power of the local Board to create a schedule which maximizes the time that specialists work directly with students who need their support.

I agree this is unwrranted and Teachers have enough time for additonal learning and for Parent Teacher meetings as it is, this is wasted time away from valuable learning.

I have not seen any positive outcomes from early dismissal.

At least make it one full day like a professional day - makes it easier to schedule kids & work!
