End discrimination against older drivers in Ontario

I agree that every driver should be retested every 5 years. I don't know any drivers over 80 who have had recent traffic accidents for which they were found responsible but I do know seveal people in their 40s who have made mistakes while driving.

The whole system should be changed with mandatory testing for every driver every five (5) years.

If it's a valid test of competence, test everyone (or at least a random sample). There are plenty of dangerous drivers on our roads but that has little to do with old age!

Testing should be based on demonstrated shortcomings, not age.

Retest under 25 instead.

Totally discriminatory. Let the doctors decide not a civil servant.

I have been driving professionally for the last 16 years and its definately not seniors that cause most of the problems on the roads.

There are many reasons to retest people but being 80 is not one of them.

I strongly oppose for for 80 year old drivers to undergo testing every two years. This is a law that discriminates against such seniors solely on the unfounded prejudice that seniors are dangerous drivers.

In two tests I missed one question. The item was not in my book as although new was out of date.

As far as I'm concerned and as a retired Police Officer that worked Traffic Duty on municipal and rural roads, the issue is in reality can a licensed driver under his or her health conditions Regardless of age, drive safely. The current practice by the Ontario government is well intended but has proved nothing in that it protects the public. Seniors are not the cause of most traffic accidents, period. From my recent observations on lack respect of road rules by youth and young adults clearly demonstrates that problems are not limited to senior drivers. The clear assumption is that you automatically become inept to drive simply because of advanced age. WRONG!! If a proven and clear medical condition and previous driving record puts the public at risk, then I support some form of control and restrictions, but for all licensed drivers of any age.
