The focus should be on new to Canada and distracted drivers. From what I observe daily there are horrendous drivers on our roads.

I would suggest that if the government is so concerned about danger behind the wheel due to our general health, attention should be directed towards the much younger group who may be healthier but with dangerous behaviour behind the wheel. Periodic testing should apply to that group. Statistics don't lie!

I am 84, never had an accident in my life after driving since I was 20 years old. I think it is grossly unfair that Seniors have to have a written test every two years and a lecture on road safety etc. I am about to do another test on Jan. 31st, 2014. The crazy drivers on the roads are the young people. I would like the MTO to stop this testing against seniors immediately. It is unfaur and unjust and I sincerely hope that the MTO will look into this immediately and make the necessary changes.

It was reported in the media this morning (29 Jan 14) that MOT had removed the written test requirement for ON licenced drivers over ther age of 80. Perhaps this is the first concession in the legal and justified fight to end this discrimination againt older drivers in Ontario

Having taken the written test and discussion period, I must admit it brought me up to speed on changes, etc. However, afterf more than 50 years of trouble free driving in all parts of Canada, the USA, and Europe, I really did not think it was necessary. As most of us do, I have a yearly medical, eye examination, and dental check-up, and I would much prefer any one of these professionals informing me my driving days are finished for whatever reason. This, to me seems a better way to assess xcompetence behind the wheel. .

With respect my comments which follow are based on 64 years of driving experience in Canada and abroad in all kinds of conditions including cross country in both wheeled and tracked vehicles.

I think doctors are sometimes relunctant to report to the MTO however we should not all be painted with the same brush
