The world is dying and it's all our fault. Global Warming has become a topic of political discussion when it should transcend those boundaries. Too many people hear about it in debates while we lose precious time needed for action to keep it from causing more harm. Global warming is a very real topic, not a figment of imagination. It is our duty, as humans, to take care of our home. No one purposefully intends to destroy their own home, so why should we not take precautions to save our mutual one. Studies by NASA have shown that carbon dioxide emissions are at their highest in the past 650,000 years! Arctic sea ice is at its lowest level ever recorded, between 1996 and 2005 Greenland ice loss doubled, and 9 of the 10 warmest years recorded have been since the year 2000. Polar ecosystems are melting which is threatening the species that live there. They're melting because carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas which means it traps long wave radiation in the earth's atmosphere in the form of heat. To properly slow global warming, action has to be taken. Trees and plants are one of our greatest allies when fighting global warming. They use the chemical process of photosynthesis to absorb carbon dioxide to create glucose for their own absorption. Not only do they reduce the amount of CO2 (carbon dioxide) in the atmosphere, but they also release O2 (oxygen) back as a product of photosynthesis. This means that as plants absorb carbon dioxide, they simultaneously provide living species such as humans, birds, dogs, etc with the oxygen needed to respirate. Dogs may be man's best friend, but plants are the world's.

Deforestation is the practice of permanently destroying forests in order to make land available for other uses. Every year an estimated 18 million acres (7.3 million hectares) of forest are lost each year. That is roughly the size of Panama! Deforestation doesn't just kill the world by increasing global warming, but it promotes species extinction. Over 70% of the world's plants and animals live in forests. This causes a loss of habitat which can lead to extinction. You may not think that a species is that important to society, but extinction of plants and animals will have a negative effect on medical research for antidotes to toxins or cures to diseases. Furthermore, deforestation causes soil erosion. Tree roots anchor the soil and without them, the soil can be washed or blown away. That can lead to vegetation growth problems. If there is a problem in growing vegetation, then communities will suffer from lack of food in lower income areas. Also, increased vegetation helps to promote photosynthesis. That lack of vegetation promotes global warming further.

Help save your home. Sign this petition, let the world hear the voice of its people. Stop deforestation and end global warming.
