We need to protect Thompson River Steelhead!

The time for action is now and well passed, likely more should have been done 20 years ago. This is a very sad state of affairs but I am knowledgable enough to know that the commercial fishery only played part in role to the depletion of this sacred run of Wild Steelhead. Net fishing in the Fraser Canyon has made up for the majority of the devastation and that should not be overlooked as well as ocean interception and now beach seining on the Fraser River where fish are being caught time and time again in a 6 mile area. The stress on any Salmon or Steelhead in this manner only leads to death. Please save these Steelhead but look at the bigger picture and be sure to write what all the issues have been not just the commercial fishing. Dean Chilliwack Canada

Netting of any kind must be removed from all rivers in BC, This will ensure enough salmon steelhead will arrive on the spawning grounds

If we care at all about protecting our waters and the life within the rivers, lakes and oceans, it would an shameful atrocity to not act to save this amazing specie of searun trout that has been returning to the Thompson for hundreds of years! Annual returns have become worse and worse. Whatever we are doing is not helping this dire situation at all. The alarming results show that can not keep doing what we’re doing. Is there not anyone who cares enough to take a different and effective course of action???

Let us respect our Natural world and be thankful for all that is provided freely to us all. Do not commercialize the gifts of Nature for the profit of some at the risk of loss for all. Please, let's wake up from this mind control of commercialism.

I have spent thousands of dollars visiting your country to experience fishing for this great species. Now it is time for me to vote with my feet and I will not be visiting your country again until I see some tangible headway being made to halt and reverse this decline.

Dear Minister and DFO, Please, heed our common concern re. our BC Thompson River steelhead. Once this species is gone, it's gone and who's willing to take responsibility for your actions or lack thereof in preserving this beautiful prized fish? Please, tread carefully and wisely! Thank you, GO

Please direct your attention to the plight of these magnificent fish. If you allow the business as usual mentality to prevail, these fish will be lost. I met with you this year and tried to convey my concerns about the lack of returning salmon and steelhead. The low returns of these Thompson Steelhead in conjunction with low returns of salmon have played a part several businesses in the sport fishing industry closing down. One was the fishing tackle distributor that I worked for. It employed over 40 people in Pitt Meadows and is now shut down. Several large fishing tackle retailers have also recently shut down operations leaving over 100 people out of work. This is only the beginning of the end for the sport fishing sector, It is imperative that all resources be focused on bringing back wild Steelhead. Stop fish farming and indiscriminent commercial fishing!

it is long past time to talk about this travesty..it is time to take action andf do the right thing..

Steelhead numbers go down everywhere in BC. Maybe due to the new Fishtrailers?! Take care for a beauty like the Thompson, but also for all other Steelhead river.

The time to act is now.

To date, entire runs of wild, naturally produced steelhead trout -- Oncorhychus mykiss (O. mykiss) -- in British Columbia are being systematically killed-off, through negligence of both the Federal Government of Canada and the Provincial Government of British Columbia through their implementation of various commercial and cultural fish harvesting practices. O. mykiss has been determined to be a species of concern by both levels of government. O. mykiss is being overlooked as a species at risk while continuing to be relegated as “by catch” in the commercial and cultural harvest of salmon. Both governments have abrogated their duty to take all actions necessary to reduce or eliminate further harm to this species at risk. To see the extinction of this iconic species of fish through wanton negligence by the governing authorities, is to see the removal of a vital thread holding together the fabric of natural coastal life.

What, you don't want to save these fish. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out. Lets put a moratorium this commercial activity!
