We, the undersigned progressives of Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District, respectfully implore you to abstain from endorsing any of the Congressional candidates prior to the primary election. We ask that you, the party leadership and Committee-people, allow the voters to choose between the worthy candidates without unduly advantaging any one over the others by bestowing your official endorsement. Please let the democratic process work without unbalancing the scales on behalf of any one candidate.
The outcome of the 2018 election will dictate the future of our nation. As one of the rare swing districts, it is imperative that Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional seat be won by a Democrat in the coming election. Democratic and allied progressive voters are motivated as never before by the outrages of the president and the inadequate and complicit representation provided by our Republican Congressman. This primary season presents us with unique opportunities and challenges.
The best primaries feature engaging candidates and a free exchange of ideas. This positive dynamic uncovers the priorities of the electorate as it reveals the strengths of each candidate. This is what democracy looks like.
Thus far this primary season, each of the candidates is adhering to the highest of principles. None are engaging in personal attacks. None are wasting capital. And most importantly, none are bruising their fellow candidates in a manner that will make them vulnerable in the general election. What we are seeing, instead, are leaders who are interacting with and listening to those whom they endeavor to represent. We are witnessing civility and respect.

The party leadership is ignoring our requests for neutrality while the clock ticks toward the primary. Call your local committee-person today to demand they stop tipping the scales for their preferred candidate. We must keep the pressure on them until they commit to letting the voters decide.

The momentum behind this petition proves that voters in the 8th District expect a fair primary process. Post this link on Facebook and text three friends to keep this pressure on party leadership. Email your committee person today and demand they abstain from pre-primary endorsements.

The candidate the party is seeking to endorse has paid for this endorsement. This mere fact will be make him incredibly vulnerable to Republican attacks. Do away with the endorsement, if you believe in his candidacy so much, let the people choose him. It will make him a stronger candidate in the general.

True democracy requires that the people choose -- not the elite choose (or even recommend) for the people. We either trust in democracy or we make a pretense that we believe in it while behaving in a contrary way.

A big mistake in 2016 was the Clinton campaign's finger on the scale for Katie McGinty over two experienced pols. Unless there is evidence of wrongdoing or violation of party rules, Committee endorsements should wait until after primary season is over.

The "party" is supporting an out of town millionaire simply because of his money. In the end- he may be a good guy, and even a good candidate, but have enough faith in the voters to let us make our own decision.

As a registered Democrat I see several strong candidates whose positions we should be allowed to weigh carefully without feeling discouraged that any have been handicapped before the primary. Help us practice true democracy, and conserve party financial support for the general election!

I believe The Dem PArty endorsement sank our chance to defeat Toomey last year. Let the people choose and let the candidates fire up the voters.

Endorsing a candidate in the primary is antithetical to democracy. Letting the voters choose will indicate which candidate is most electable and will keep party favoritism out of the primary.

Primary endorsements are divisive and take away choices from voters!
