On behalf of all communities and developers that use Huawei and Honor devices, we petition for the immediate release of the kernel source code for all Huawei devices running Android Nougat.
For countless times, many developers and Huawei/Honor community members have requested for the release of the kernel source code through social media, email and your forums. However, you have only left vague and sometimes irrelevant answers in response. In addition, you have not delivered the source code despite the copious amounts of requests we have sent. We, the community, have found your lack of care and attention for the users and developers to be extremely irritating and inexcusable. Therefore, some reason that you fail to see the importance source code has on Huawei communities.
However, the release of your source code is crucial for the following reasons:
- Developers depend on the kernels to create stable custom ROMs on devices that are based on the Kirin processor: For example, hardworking developers creating Lineage OS for Kirin-based phones depend on the EMUI 5.0 kernel source to fix problems related to the lack of these sources such as boot-loops as a result of kernel panics.
- Users who use these ROMs depend on reliable software and without your deliverance, users might never get a stable custom ROM.
Additionally, the GPL 2.0 requires companies like you to release source code to the public. By not publishing the source code you have violated these requirements.
We simply and politely ask you, once again, that you release merely the kernel source code so the developers and communities can use it for the benefit of many Huawei users.

I started this because I was frustrated with the silence, but looking at the stories shared here, I realize this is about so much more than just my own development projects. It is overwhelming to see so many of you feeling the same way, and all the credit for this momentum belongs to you for showing up. I am still trying to figure out the best way to get this in front of the right people, but I am learning as I go.

RELEASE THE SOURCE CODE ALREADY. seriously huawei what is the hold up?? keeps us from having actual dev activity on these phones.
Kernel source code is a vital component that must not be kept away from us developers, not even mentioning the GPL2 obligations.
It is really annoying how they can't just release the kernel source in a timely manor!
I own this device. And have been waiting for the EMUI 5 Source code for months now. This was my first Huawei purchase ever, Trying not to support the big name manufactures....but Huawei is giving me reasons to look back into the popular phone direction. If Huawei wants customers to stick around and purchase future products, they have to support their products now. Plain and simple.
You guys at Honor/Hauawi really are missing a trick by not releasing your EMUI kernel code together with prompt software updates. The only thing a puts the Google phones ahead is Thier updates
It will be usefull , i try to create a new rom for Honor 5C.

getting tired of waiting for the source code for my p9. its bad enough the software is buggy but not being able to fix it myself is just wrong.
