Tips are how servers and bartenders live. They are not offered any other benefits and pay out of pocket for health insurance ,etc. I worked my way through school as a waitress and if it wasn't for the tips I worked so hard fkr, I wouldn't have been able to attend school.

More socialism, taking money from those who earn it and giving it to those that don't (the government). Bartenders and Servers have an incentive to provide good service right now. With this bill the only incentive would be to do the minimum.

Eliminating tips means eliminating jobs. It means The destruction of the entire restaurant and service industry. That's that's hundreds of thousands of jobs if not millions and it has been the best way I can pay my bills. I know many friends and family members who are servers and bartenders that have made their living, like I do, serving others.. And let me tell you, serving the general public is not an easy task, we are constantly treated as a lower class, talked down to, embarrassed and yelled at in front of a whole room full of strangers, snapped at, and disrespected in ways that would blow the minds of most people who work in different fields. As stressful as it can be, it is also rewarding knowing that at the end of the day you can pay your bills and support your family because of your personality, charm, passion for serving and pleasing others, and your ability to make sure someone else has a great experience every time they come sit on your section of the restaurant. I have been in this industry since I was 15yrs old, that's 14 years so far that I have been able to support myself, and soon a family, just off the generosity of those I serve, and I know I could not survive if tips are taken away, I know my friends and family could not survive either. I really don't want to have to stand in a long unemployment line with a whole lot of hardworking people that deserve to be able to continue making a living by doing what they know best, serving people like you who just don't get it.

Do not cut tip wages in CT or any other state at that. Stick with the age old saying, if you don't know how to tip, don't go out to eat!

Eliminating the tip credit seems just like a way to increase payroll taxes to the state in the guise of helping employees. It will not help most employees in this state. I am sure if you poll restaurant servers in the state you will find that they do not want this to change. Most are making significantly more that minimum wage. Our staff makes between $20-$40 per hour in tips. Most of it is in credit card tips so it is all taxed.

This shouldn't even be a thought! I've worked in the restaurant business for 18 years this is my livelihood! I wouldn't be able to support my family if this happened!

I was a single mom and managed to survive because I waitressed for over 20 years. I also put myself through college because of the flexibility in hours that I could work. This will put the economy in a worse situation than it is now, it'll put restaurants out of business and so forth.

Higher rates of pay means fewer jobs in the restaurant industry.
How's that for building your tax base. Keep up the good work legislators of this great state of ct.
