Single-use plastic bags cause permanent environmental damage, increase waste disposal costs, and denigrate environmental aesthetics. Reusable bags, and to a lesser extent paper bags made from post-consumer recycled material, are viable alternatives to single-use plastic bags.The City of New Orleans should pass a city ordinance that bans the use of single-use plastic bags in retail.
