the only pay 86c actually. https://mybroadband.co.za/news/energy/224620-price-of-electricity-in-south-africa-should-be-lower-than-50c-per-kwh.html We as South Africans, should be paying a reasonable 38c to 50c per unit, yet, somehow you feel its right to be charging us FOUR to FIVE times that amount!? Ok so part of this is due to Eskom being badly managed and having to get South Africa’s money to pay them out and pay for their new cars. So something not entirely in CoCT'scontrol so let’s remove that from the equation and take what the article states, as the baseline from Eskom to municipalities and work with 86c per unit, which is what Eskom sell it to your for. Now anyone who has done the maths, will quickly realize, you, the City of Cape Town are putting your own markup from 86c to R1.93+, mark-up on this! CoCT are pocketing 84c per unit sold at R1.93! That is a 100% markup… And even worse you are pocketing R1.48 per unit at R2.34 bracket. That’s a 150% markup, insane!

These prices have gotten to a point were people will go into bankruptcy just trying to keep their lights on!! Scale these prices back to what they use to be!!!

The ANC cadres , Guptas and Zuma have looted all the state owned enterprises by BILLIONS. The gig is now up and there is NO MORE MONEY. So the money for Eskom mismanagement and looting must now come from somewhere else. So what best way than to tax the overtaxed middle class, whether you are white or black or whatever. It is no use to just write petitions and hope everything is going to come right. What we need is qualified and honest people at these state owned enterprises and leave the ANC to loot Government and the Treasury further. What we need is action : Marches and the best thing since ice cream is : A TAX/PAYMENT revolt. If we all stop paying our municipal accounts, then we will be successful although as a first step we need to march in the streets.

Our electricity has increased by almost 50%! How can this be fair or a City that works for us?

1) Better control & management of Escom. Less Government involvement. 2) More favourable legislation for Independent/Private Power Suppliers. 3) Maximum percentage service charge instituted across board for electricity vendors.

Electricity tariffs are far too high yet Eskom can somehow afford to give unreasonable payouts and 'performance bonuses' even when there's a clear lack of performance.
