Elbel golf course has always had water drainage issues. Interrupting the water tables and wet land ecology would create more land erosion than necessary. Neighboring communities already have drainage problems in the low land area, why create more problems. Please allow the community of South Bend to take responsibility for a long term solution to rather than a quick sell for instant revenue. I recommend retaining the property and transforming it into a smaller golf course- why not 10 holes, and let me pick my best 9 scores? The remaining land would easily welcome walkers, joggers, or cyclist, to the already paved cart paths. Opportunities would be available to birders, photographers, family picnics, and wedding ceremonies. Retaining the driving range would provide entertainment to more than active golfers.

I appreciate the city's desire to be fiscally responsible, but in the long-term I believe this land has far more value to the community as a public resource. Now let's get creative about how to to this economically.

We don't need another housing development. You would only have ONE CITY GOLF COURSE, You can't count STUDEBAKER AS A REGULATION COURSE. Furthermore , a wildlife sanctuary would be a great addition for the public to view

Love the beautiful golf course, the open space, the tranquility of it all. And I live nearby. The wildlife is amazing. It would be a shame to change or alter this natural haven through any type of large scale consutruction.

Our golf league played at Elbel for the past 5 years--we had the largest league at Elbel. We were forced to move to Blackthorn for 2016 because of the future uncertainty of Elbel. For the most part we were happy with Elbel up until last summer. Last summer they let the course go to hell. Probably because they knew they were going to sell it--so why put time, effort and money into it. Sad, cause when it's kept up, it's a top flight golf course

While Elbel may have lost money, it still generates larger revenues than most of the parks and the zoo. If they need money I suggest they sell a non-revenue generating park or two. Sounds very shady to me.

A city needs more than just $$ in its coffers, especially if those dollars can be made some other way than selling a nature treasure. Once gone, SB will never get it or its equal back.

Someone should start a conversation with the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians about land preservation and heritage. Get their reaction and feed back. It could lead to a positive solution for everyone.
