Edison Schools : Limit use of Chromebooks

We don't want our kids to get exposed to technology so early. Give them freedom to write and learn.

I believe kids should first learn how to write before they start using technology

Though Technology is important to learn in today's world, it cannot replace the "Traditional" learning techniques that are definitely needed to build the foundation of our kids. Kids should be able to write first before learning to use keyboards! Technology CANNOT replace the Book experience!! Please make minimal use of Online videos and apps to teach kids and spread the importance of Our Traditional Learning Techniques! Thank you!! Kavitha . M

I completely agree with limiting use of chrome book for elementary school.

Beyond the health concerns (my sons gets headaches and red eye), I am concerned that videos are not always the right medium for teaching. An important skill is to be able to discern important information from unstructured data. That gets lost when information is packaged and being shown as a website or video. We also need to keep in mind that google and apple are for-profit companies. So when apple commends our district for using iPad for Algebra, they are not being altruistic; they are just happy that we are using their product. Same with google. I see an obsession of being 'google certified' teacher, which only means that one is prone to using google products -- great for google but not necessarily for us.

Kids are spending too much time on chrome books at elementary school level. It's not good for there health and overall learning and development. Technology exposure is important, but at the elementary school level chrome book use should be limited.

My opinion is that elementary kids needs to focus more on paper/ pencil work and build vocab and communication skills.

I support limiting the use of Chromebooks in elementary schools. Unecessary screen time is a huge health hazard and even the pediatrician advise against screen time of more than 60 mins per day.

Completely in agreement with this petition. I only hope there is an outcome for the voice raised. I have seen in the past such kind of petitions aren't answered appropriately.

Kids have their whole life to explore technology. The age that we are living now, technology will get to them eventually. For now, let's preserve their innocence and their books. Eliminate use of Chrome Books until high school. Jayshree

They should be sending Crome books to home and no Homework should be done on crome book. At the beginning of school we got so much stationery use them.

Another biggest negative point is if we move out of Edison township to schools where there no chromebook, our kids wont know how to write!!

Completely agree....too much tech too early

My daughter has poor eyesight and her eyeglasses have to changed every six months coz the eyesight gets poorer and glasses get thicker . The school just started and she is already complaining about headaches and itchy eyes because she is on the chromebook almost the whole day first for class work and then for homework
