We call upon the City of Edinburgh Council to improve the provision of accessible nursery class places for children living in the Marchmont, Sciennes and Grange districts of the city. Children are entitled to a fully funded nursery place from the term after their third birthday. The City Council is currently failing to provide adequate services to allow all children to take up a nursery place, in their local area, until after their fourth birthday, despite them frequently having been registered on a waiting list since their second birthday. This situation must be rectified.
The stories coming into my inbox reveal a growing strain on families across our neighborhoods who are struggling to find local care. I am currently gathering these accounts to present directly to the council as evidence of the need for immediate change.

Reaching this new level of support confirms that the struggle to find nursery places in Southside is a shared burden for many families. This collective response demonstrates that the current lack of local capacity is a significant concern that requires immediate attention from the council.

Too many people moving to the area and not enough investment in basic services. Fix the nursery shortages.

Sort this out council. Edinburgh families are being pushed out just because there isnt enough space for our toddlers.

Ridiculous that we have to wait until they are four. My son is two and we are already struggling to find a spot anywhere near home.

My daughter missed out on her first choice and now we are stuck with a massive commute every morning. Not good enough.
