As concerned constituents of District 273, we propose start times at Edina Elementary Schools to be rotated fairly and equitably. Schools that currently have late start are due to have early start in 2009-2010 and deserve it. However, the Edina School Board is proposing to leave all start times as is for the coming years.
Edina policy states that times are set every two years and are rotated among the elementary schools to be equitable.
We understand the budgetary pressures District 273 is facing, but know there is a way to continue rotating start times in a fiscally responsible way. We are willing and able to work with the district to figure out another way to solve this issue.
The feedback from parents who are tired of this inconsistency keeps pushing me forward. I am spending my evenings drafting proposals to show the board how we can balance the budget without abandoning our policy of fairness.
January 16, 2009
Seeing so many parents and neighbors join this fight has given me immense hope that our children will finally get the fair treatment they deserve. This momentum proves that our community refuses to let the district ignore its own policy on equity. I am ready to take this energy straight to the school board meetings.

Keep your word. The rotate policy was there for a reason and it needs to be honored.

The board needs to follow their own rules. A policy is useless if they just ignore it whenever they feel like it.

It is not that hard to swap a schedule. Quit making excuses and do what you said you would do.

My son is at a school that has been stuck with the late start way too long. It shouldn't be this difficult to get equality across the district.

Sticking to the schedule is only fair. My kids have dealt with the late slot for two years now and it really messes with our schedule compared to the others.
