We the students, parents, and residents of Decatur, GA support an 8:45AM start time for Decatur High School. We request that you add an action item to the June 14th Board Meeting Agenda and vote to adopt the following bell schedule:
* Clairemont Elementary: 8:00 – 2:30
* Glennwood Elementary: 8:00 – 2:30
* Oakhurst Elementary: 8:00 – 2:30
* Winnona Park Elementary: 8:00 – 2:30
* Fifth Avenue 4/5 Academy: 8:15 – 3:15
* Renfroe Middle: 8:45 – 3:45
* Decatur High: 8:45 – 3:45
In support of your fiduciary responsibilities and in the context of the June 14th Board Meeting topics of budget and millage rate increases, we further request that you add to the Agenda and action item and vote to adopt a lease purchase agreement for buses. This alternative to the current contract for buses through the Dekalb County School System will provide substantial savings which would more than offset the cost of adopting the aforementioned bell schedule.

The increase in public interest has prompted a formal request from the school board for a briefing document. I am currently finalizing the transportation cost analysis to present alongside our proposed bell schedule changes.

My son is basically a zombie in his first period class. he cant learn anything when hes that tired. please change the time.
DECATUR NEEDS TO WAKE UP AND LET THE KIDS SLEEP! stop making excuses about the buses and just get it done.
Finally. Its common sense that teenagers need more sleep. The science is there so why are we still doing this.
The bus situation is ridiculous anyway. taking control of our own transport saves money and fixes the schedule. win win.
Its way too early for a teenager to be sitting in a classroom. they are exhausted and miserable. listen to the parents for once.
