We, the parents of East Burke High School student-athletes and proud alumni of the East Burke Football Program, are writing to express our strong support for Coach Mike Helms and his leadership. We are committed to seeing the East Burke Football program return to the winning traditions that once defined it, and we firmly believe that Coach Helms is the person who can lead us back to success.
There was a time when East Burke Football games drew crowds of over 10,000 enthusiastic fans, generating significant revenue that not only benefited the football program but also supported other school athletic programs. Those games brought our community together and instilled a deep sense of pride in both the school and its athletes. Our goal is to see those days return — to see the team thrive once again on the field and to experience the excitement that comes from a strong, competitive program.
We believe that Coach Helms embodies the values and leadership that can restore this legacy of excellence. His dedication, vision, and ability to connect with student-athletes are qualities that are essential for building a successful and sustainable football program. Under his guidance, we are confident that East Burke Football will once again become a source of pride for the school, its athletes, and the broader community.
In addition to his coaching skills, Coach Helms understands the importance of developing character, discipline, and teamwork in young athletes. His commitment to fostering these values will not only contribute to winning on the field but also prepare our students for success off the field. The positive impact he can have on the lives of student-athletes goes beyond football, building individuals who are ready to lead and succeed in their futures.

I was looking at the board earlier and just kind of sat there because this momentum is actually starting to feel real now. It reminds me of those old stadium crowds back in the day and honestly I never thought we would get this much traction so quickly which is just wild to think about.

I played for Coach Helms and he is a great man and coach. Really shaped my life.
Mike Helms definitely knows how to coach football and a return to the program would be great for the school, alumni and community.
The man has been to a lot of places and had success and if he did not have success it’d be outside factors to blame. He done well here at East Burke and other places and should be considered
Coach Helms was a great coach to play under. It would be great for the program to have him back around leading the team.
I have personally coached with Mike Helms at Freedom HS and Hickory High. He is a good man, a great coach, and a great friend. Hire him!!!
