Dear Friends,
Our neighborhood, The Ridge, has been part of the Barnwell community for 22 years. Our children have been with yours since the first day of kindergarten to the final 5th grade graduation. We’ve served with you on the PTA, helped chair events like Barnival, and celebrated the school’s many accomplishments.
We need your help and we need it quickly. As you may have heard, Fulton County Schools is redistricting several neighborhoods out of Barnwell Elementary. We believe this will be detrimental to Barnwell in many ways:
- The proposed plan from Fulton County has enrollment decreasing at Barnwell. Over the next 4 years, projected enrollment will decrease from 767 to 661 students. That is a loss of up to 3 classrooms(not smaller classes). What does this mean? Less money for Barnwell from Fulton County schools and from parent donations.
- There is a significant amount of parent involvement from the impacted neighborhoods. We have a history of serving in key PTA leadership positions, helping to chair school events, volunteering in the classroom as room parents, and connecting the school to businesses in the community. The loss of these families that have significantly invested in Barnwell will leave a void in the school that may take years to fill.
- The proposed plan disrupts several neighborhood groupings and undermines the cohesion of our Johns Creek Community. For example, Queensbury will still attend Barnwell but the other neighborhoods on Brumbelow will be redistricted. This separates kids who live next to each other and will ultimately attend middle school together.
What can you do? Please sign this electronic petition. Please submit online comments opposing Fulton County’s draft plan. Even if you are not near the impacted area, this is an opportunity to send a message to Fulton County that we are a community and we are going to protect the things that make Barnwell such a great school. Online comments must be submitted by 11:59pm on Monday, December 7th.

I have submitted a formal request for a meeting with the Board of Education to discuss the long term impact of these enrollment projections. My focus is now on gathering official data on school funding formulas to present as a counter-argument to the current plan.

Most of the students to be transferred to Hillside are high-achieving students. Hillside does not have the program resources to serve these students. WHAT A SHAME THAT THE SCHOOL SYSTEM WILL FAIL THESE YOUNG PEOPLE. Don Zurovsky
Please do not move "The Ridge" community from Barnwell ES. We have strong community ties which will be affected regarding Volunteering and Kids education and growth.
We bought our home because of Barnwell. I am a real estate agent, redistricting will change our property values, as well as out re-sale appeal to buyers. Barnwell is an excellent school. No redistricting!
East Brumbelow is an important part of the JOHNS CREEK Community. Not Roswell. Not Alpharetta. Not Timbuktu. Let the kids go to school in the same town they live in, for goodness sake!
We bought our house 18 months ago specifically to be in the Barnwell district. We came from a Title I school in Sandy Springs. We have an advanced 4th grader and a special needs child in pre k in special ed. He is thriving. Another disruption will be very hard and we really love the special ed department at Barnwell.
Vote NO on the Barnwell redistricting plan!
the Fulton Schools planning committee is making decisions based on agenda, NOT redistricting criteria. What they are doing is wrong. If the board votes in favor of this map, they are voting against a fair process and DARING you to try to do something about it. If they vote yes on this map, we MUST got to the polls and vote them out.

The traffic situation on Brumbelow is not good and it will be made way more difficult busing the kids to Hillside through the private school areas. Also all of the kids on Brumbelow should go to the same school as many of them know each other and it is not fair to separate the nearby kids making them go to different schools
