It seems very strange that an organisation which is supposedly committeed to 'enabling students' should act in a way that disables them. Both the broadcasters and the listeners are being deprived by the SU decision. The lack of consultation with Purple Radio is, sadly, not surprising given SU's previous dealings with the station, but is clearly unfair. The decision flies in the face of many of the strategic objectives which SU has set for itself including 'Understand the needs of our students and other stakeholders and work with them on a continual basis to engage and communicate eff ectively, allowing us to accurately represent the views of our students and to support our students to make positive changes.' Where was the engagement and effective communication with Purple Radio?

I run a charity and the misson and objectives of the charity are the prime puropse - not a surplus or 'profit'. The Students' Union should reconsider their decision on this basis - i.e. those whom they exist for and those whom they are meant to serve and enable.

As a Purple Radio DJ with a show scheduled for 10pm on Sunday nights I’m incredibly disappointed and frustrated with the DSU’s decision to close at 8pm. Instead of “Enabling Students” as their motto proclaims, they are actively robbing me of the opportunity to do something that I love, and for them to have done so without even consulting Purple Radio is unacceptable behaviour. The DSU has prioritised profit over providing opportunities for the students they claim to support, and has failed to listen to the opinions of those affected. It’s outrageous for a union to neglect its students in this manner.

The last minute (read middle of Fresher's Week last year) decision to close on Saturday nights forced the closure of Vane Tempest Sessions. It's outrageous that the 'Students' union can continue to operate with absolutely no consultation of the groups and individuals affected.

I'd like to point out that DUSS was not really consulted about the closing on Sundays, we were just told that we would be unable to rebook the our usual room. Changing class days halfway through the year has meant clashes and wasted membership money for many of our members.
