DUSS has lost members and teachers from this move for which they were given no preparation for. It is such a shame to see the Union building removed from student life even more than it already has been over the last ten years..

Us Student Radio people have to stick together! Sad to see a fellow station being shafted by SU missteps =(
The same kind of thing happend to at our station (Pure FM, Portsmouth) we stood strong and forced the union's hand into returning to the original 0900 - 0000 on everday of the week. It is sickening that student unions up and down the country think that they listen to the needs of the students and then tottally go against them. Unions are incredibly unstudent lead but run by staff for profit not the benefit of students. One of the best ways to get into radio is through student radio stations and most stations will schedule specialist shows during the evenings. Presenters without the experience make are not employable by the BBC or Global or even smaller community stations. Durham Students' Union you are making a big mistake that media won't forget.

Rather than closing the building for longer periods of time, why not try to investigate how those hours could be better used? Durham faces a significant lack of venues, and by taking away the possibility of the DSU for another evening a week, the situation is only going to get worse. Taking such action without directly consulting those involved, halfway through an academic year, is not what I'd imagine the Union wants to be remembered for, but this sort of thing is all too often the case.

If you could get competent students to be incharge of events then maybe you could have been making a profit on the weekends.
