We call on the Irish Government and the EU institutions to recognise the right of the Catalan people to decide their own future. We call on the above to condemn and place sanctions against Spain until ALL political prisoners are freed. We believe that solidarity, freedom, self-determination, dialogue and non-violence are values that underpin democracy in 21st century Europe and that violation of those values should not be ignored and not go unpunished. Ireland knows what its like to fight for freedom. Free the prisoners now, no one should be locked up just for wanting to vote.
It is shocking and disgusting that we have political prisoners again in Europe. The clause of the Spanish constitution which says that 'Spain is indivisible' is incompatible with the rights of every free people to self-determination
I do not support or sympathise with separatist movements. The recent referendum held in the Catalan region of Spain was illegal and unconstitutional. This has been widely recognised by the international community and members of the Catalan parliament have received wide condemnation for encouraging such actions. This referendum is not a true reflection of the will of the Catalan people nor the will of the Spanish people. I do not support Catalans secession from Spain. However, Spain is a liberal western democracy and should not be imprisoning political opposition. This does not coincide with liberal democratic values. For this reason I have decided to sign the petition and hope the Spanish authorities release these political prisoners and uphold our democratic values.
I'm joining this petition for justice, dignity and democracy. Please help us to free them!
Get our politicians out of the prision, where never an idea and freedom should be closed. Thanks.

Democracy is not a crime. Stop the repression against the catalan people immediately.
