Pauline you make an important point about the new state of the art facility. The reason I titled this petition "Dump Free Cayman" similarly to the "Keep Bodden Town Dump Free" movement is that no one wants a dump on Cayman at all. The whole idea that we should "move the dump to Bodden Town" is actually a harmful one because the reality is that the current dump isn't going to be moved. The trash that is currently on site will always be there, and should be, because there are apparently dangerous metals and radioactive medical waste among who knows what, the moving of which, would cause much more pollution to be released into the air etc. It has to be capped with appropriate collection and disposal of drainage and venting for methane. A modern state of the art waste management facility has no fires, almost no smell, and a minimal impact on the environment. It is not a dump. Likely the largest impact it would have would be the jobs created in the district where it is located. I am as guilty as anyone of saying in the past that the "dump should be moved" but this only incites heavy push back from wherever the new facility is trying to be established. I understand this. This is why I called this "Dump Free Cayman" because Cayman can be dump free and we deserve to be.

Can the govt afford this. Probably not. Dart has the most economic solution the the dump problem, remediate the old site and build a state of the are waste management facility. and if it is managed correctly there will be no fires or smell
