Our children are at risk of losing their school. In an effort to balance his budget, the Mayor has proposed closing 16 daycare centers —but Duffield Children’s Center is more than daycare and it should not appear on his list.

  • Duffield is an educational and developmental center, providing free or sliding-scale educationally rich programs.
  • Unlike many other centers on the Mayor’s list, we have a waiting list — we are fully enrolled with 147 children.
  • Though our nationally recognized Creative Curriculum, 65% of our children have achieved literacy mastery after just one year of school.
  • We also offer federally-funded Head Start and privately-funded After School programs. About $500,000 in Head Start funds would be returned to the Federal government should Duffield close.

I was just checking the screen and honestly my heart is pounding because I truly did not think we would see this much movement so quickly. It feels like people are finally waking up to the fact that Duffield isn't just some random facility since those literacy numbers are actually a big deal and losing that funding makes zero sense anyway. I need to go grab a coffee and process this but wow thank you for keeping this fire burning.

My son goes here and he has learned so much. closing this place would be a huge mistake for all the families in the neighborhood.
