Mascots were never created to respect and Honor us indigenous people, they were created to insult, demean and dehumanizes us, and they must all be changed and criminalizes as human rights violations . Ban Native Mascots FOREVER

Clinging to a historically oppressive narrative is hurtful to our institution and the successful students within it. We cannot claim to be inclusively excellent nor dedicated to the public good if our mascot does not represent, but in fact negates the students within our own community. It is time for change!

As an anthropologist, museum professional, alumnus, and white descendent of the pioneers, I demand that DU take the long-overdue step of changing our mascot. The change does not constitute an erasure of history or heritage, but rather a recognition of the university's historical complicity in the oppression of Native people, and of our modern committment to upholding the dignity of Native lives.

As a private university, DU had the finances and therefore NO excuse not to change their nickname.
