It’s 2018 DU, let’s stop living in the white washed history we were taught and actually commit to being an inclusively excellent institution.

Change the name! It's no longer relevant to history and John Evans doesn't define the campus.

A university cannot claim to respect its students when it represents itself, and its student body, with an image of genocide against Indigenous people.

Super sick and tired of my university embodying straight racism in this way and ignoring how hurtful it is to so many in our community. It's just a name, so change it and be inclusively excellent like you always claim to be.

If you're actually going to be inclusively excellent, DU, this is the way to go. Most alum, if they truly embody the "pioneer" spirit and inclusive excellence, in addition to justice for our native peers, would support this change. The group of alum that's actually against it is small, just loud. If you want to truly embody the values you proudly say you embody #ChangeTheName #NoMorePios. Sincerely, an alum.

The name pioneer represents an era of the murder of Native Americans. It is time for the University of Denver to pick a mascot that all of its students can cheer for.
