I will be going in front of city council Tuesday October 7th to ask them to allow a leash free/limited leash dog park/no kill shelter in Drew County. The goal of this is to have somewhere safe and fun to take our dogs to play and Interact and also a safe haven for the abandoned dogs to socialize and get adoptable without risk of them being put to sleep. I want this to be at little to no cost to the city, main focus is NO cost to the city at all. Strictly donations and fundraisers. All signatures are greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance. There will be rules and regulations that everyone will have to follow in order to keep this a safe and fun place to take our dogs. There will also be a legal waiver that has to be signed prior to admittance into the park stating that Drew county/City of Monticello are NOT liable for any and all injuries sustained at the park. Hopefully there won't be any but things happen. Signing the waiver will be a 1 time thing and then kept on file. If you do not sign the waiver you cannot enter. I'm sorry but the waiver is there for a reason. It will not be the county or city's fault if you or your dog get hurt or hurt anyone else. Thank you for your understanding and I hope you all understand I'm just trying to do what will be best for everyone if we get this.
I have been busy putting together the final proposal for the council and the plan to fund this entirely through community support. The stories you are leaving in the comments about your own pets remind me why this work is so vital for our county.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that I am not the only person in Drew County who dreams of a safe haven for our dogs. My heart is full knowing that so many of you want the same future for our abandoned animals that I do.

ABSOLUTELY. Need a safe space for the dogs to run. Raising the money ourselves is the only way this gets done.
