In my middle school us girls believe that is ridiculous and inappropriate to be dress coded for your pants. I understand if the administration dress codes you for rips on your butt that shows skin butt it is starting to get warmer where i live and we cant even wear shorts to school. i am 5'7 an din eight grade and i feel it is unbelievable to be dress coded because my legs are longer and the shorts look tinier when i wear them. I bet may can agree with me and since we cant wear shorts some students can become overheated. i see all these other girls walking around in tiny shorts and they have short legs but the second i walk in i get looks and get dress coded which makes me feel incredibly uncomfortable and objectified. I'm sure some shorter girls have different problems with the dress code but i'm writing this in my perspective. i believe the dress code should not objectify certain people sometimes its not the dress code rule its the teachers and the administrators that go overboard and make many young girls feel uncomfortable in what they are wearing, so i write this to find some supporters and help.

Updates

April 8, 2019

The feedback I have received from other students indicates that this issue affects far more people than I initially anticipated. I am currently preparing a formal proposal to present to the administration regarding how these standards are enforced.

The momentum surrounding this petition confirms that many students feel uncomfortable with the current inconsistent enforcement of our dress code. Your engagement proves that we are united in the desire for a policy that applies fairly to everyone regardless of their height or build.

I remember middle school being just like this. its exhausting trying to follow rules that make no sense just bc some male teachers cant keep their eyes to themselves.

its so unfair how teachers target taller girls for things they cant even help. my daughter deals with this every single day and she comes home so upset.

total double standard. schools need to worry more about the actual learning and less about how much leg a 8th grader is showing.
