I got dress coded last year for wearing shorts I asked the teacher "why?" She said "It's to distracting for boys'." REALLY!! ‘Too distracting for boys’ is giving us the impression we should be guilty for what guys do. It's as if the teacher was telling me that if a boy looked at me the wrong way or harassed me it's my fault. With the way the world is now...it's hard being a girl it's difficult to chose out a right outfit that makes us comfortable and makes us who we are and now schools a restricting us from that!!!! I VOTE NO DRESS CODE.

doesn't it make much more sense to teach boys how to be respectful to girls rather than girls having to hide their bodies? we're not signing a petition to let us come in our birthday suits to school. we're not idiots. we just want some more liberty. i LOVE your logic, JOCO. let's make a dress code to not distract boys and "keep us safe". that's obviously going well, considering rape rates are still up ._. we should be preparing guys for when they leave high school and get them used to respecting girls, not demanding that we dress a certain way just because you're too lazy to do your job and prepare us for later on in life.

I should be able to wear what I want, when I want. It doesn't seem fair that I legally have to come to school for twelve years to "make it in this world" in the first place. If you're going to tell me that then I should be able to express myself how I want. I should be able to wear shorts if it's too hot outside, or a hat is I'm having a bad hair day, because that's how it is in the real world. There's no "dress code" in the out there. An officer isn't going to stop you and write a ticket saying "Sorry ma'am, your shorts are too short and you're discracting other pedestrians." HA. No. Wanna prepare me for the real world? Give me a dress code that makes sense.

I'm tired of not being able to express the way I look through my clothing.. I'm a women and I know the right way to dress and the right way to treat myself! I don't need a book or teacher to tell me what I'm allowed to wear or not!

Boys and girls should have the freedom to respectfully wear the clothing they desire as it doesn't violate the gang related scenarios. Girls (women) should able to dress accordingly without being shamed for wearing inappropriate clothing. This also teaches boys that if girls wear such clothing then they can use them as sexual bait outside the school grounds. Freedom to wear clothing is part of the freedom we experience in American. And if a boy or girl are being distracted by what someone is wearing it's not the person's clothing that's a problem it's the children that are being disrespectful and they are actually causing the distraction. Children need to learn the right way in school, not some conformed way that the world doesn't even follow.

This one's for the the little girls who were constantly told they could be anything, I guess they should've told them that that didn't include self expressive.

Women AND men should be able to wear clothing that expresses themselves in an appropriate way and we need to be trusted to do that. Ive seen one teenage boy get dress coded for having a tank top but I've seen countless girls be dresscoded for shoulders & collar bones including myself. Teenagers are young adults but what kind of adult get suspended for three days for showing their bra straps accidently, or being able to see their shoulder?

I hate the dress code. We are taught to express ourselves. We can't express ourselves on chains. My knees are so captivating aren't they??

Although , I am one of the ones that honestly break the dress code , I am not one of the females that wear outrageously short dresses or shorts . I understand that Johnston County Schools wants females to be protected and dressed properly but I think that females should have to right to wear clothing that at least cools us off . I don't agree or accept that females are basically being used as " bait " to address why we cannot wear certain clothing . Everything we wear is not appropriate but it is not sexually related either . Johnston County Schools as a whole should not assume the worst of this topic .
