Dr. Fred Slone has been an incredibly influential clinical educator for many years at USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. Several students from all classes have expressed their frustration and confusion given his sudden departure from the University. He has always led by example within his various endeavors at the College of Medicine including teaching physical diagnosis in the pre-clinical years and ACLS courses for third and fourth year medical students. He has also played an influential role at BRIDGE Healthcare Clinic where both students and patients have benefitted from his time and generosity. Through it all he has demonstrated his devotion to helping mold medical students to be well-trained capable clinicians who are knowledgeable and most of all compassionate. On March 2014, the USFCOM administration decided to not renew his contract to continue his various educational efforts at the University. It was a no-cause termination (no reasons or causes provided as to the decision), however his contract states he can be re-hired in a different position. By signing this petition, the students of USF Health Morsani COM are expressing their concern for the decision made regarding his position and in one united voice express their desire for the University to re-hire him in a different capacity so that we may continue to benefit from his devotion to our education.
