We, the residents, business owners and supporters of historic downtown Jonesboro, are united in our strong opposition to the proposed development of a Kum & Go Gas Station/Convenience Store at 1010 South Main Street, Jonesboro. It is the former site of Central Baptist Church. This location would be only 30 feet from single family homes. This proposed development would destroy the historic nature of this neighborhood and impair quality of life for residents and business owners through increased noise and spill-over lighting. No other gas station abuts a residential area as this one would. Traffic at the busy intersections abutting this property (4) would become a nightmare and the number of accidents could increase due to the lack of turning lanes and one way streets surrounding the property. Storing more than tens of thousands of gallons of gasoline in such close proximity to homes, healthcare facilities and schools is not something we want in this neighborhood. Downtown does not need another gas station. There are 20 gas station/ convenience stores within a 2 mile radius of the proposed location. KUM & GO IS NOT NEEDED OR WANTED IN THIS LOCATION.
