I don't see how Bozeman needs more funds with the amount of propert taxes collected each year. This is just one more tax disguised as a fee that will make life just dollars a day more difficult for the citizenry. Please do the right thing and let this go. No to paid parking downtown! Life is Downton. Please don't kill it with one more cut to the thousand already imposed.

Until the city builds more accessible parking for our downtown customers there should not be a charge for the small amount of parking currently available The neighborhoods do not want more parking on their streets. Bozeman is growing and the city administration doesn’t seem to be ahead of the growth in their planning.

Greetings! Thank you for reading my letter. I am strongly opposed to paid parking in downtown Bozeman. I realize that The Element, and other entities pay to use our downtown parking garage, thus creating revenue for our fine city. But it is my understanding that the garage was not built to accommodate hotels, etc. ; it was built to accommodate locals and visitors to facilitate their ability to park and then access our phenomenal downtown, in the myriad ways that our unique downtown offers.
Look at what happened in Great Falls. They require paid parking downtown. Does it encourage people to go downtown? I don’t think so. There is also the aspect of staying longer than you expected and getting a ticket. That happened to me there. I will say that the city did not charge me because they could see that I was from out of town. Yet, if you were a Great Falls resident, you would have been fined; therefore, discouraging any additional ventures to the downtown area.
In my opinion, our state, and nation, have an obligation to do everything we can to preserve and protect our precious downtowns. There is such a lovely mix of people who are drawn to our charming center of the city and a tremendous variety of places to access in downtown. To me, the best part of Bozeman is our special jewel -our historic downtown.
If there is anything I can do to facilitate not implementing paid parking, please let me know how I can help (via my email). Again, I am absolutely opposed to the proposed paid parking in downtown Bozeman.

As a small business owner located on Main Street, I know parking is an issue for Downtown Bozeman. However, requiring visitors and Montanans to pay for parking on the street is not the solution to the parking problem. The solution is building another multi level garage facility; additional signage indicating the street level lots and ease of negotiating the available parking. Additionally, clearing the snow from the top two levels of the Black/Mendenhall garage will allow for more parking during the winter.

I’ve lived in places with and without paid on-street parking. I firmly oppose paid on-street parking. Paid on-street parking is a harbinger of decline. Those that transition to paid on-street parking do realize an initial prosperity, but overall prosperity is short-lived, inevitably resulting in less-tangible negatives, eg visitor frustration, visitor morale issues, visitor worries. In short, nothing good comes of paid on-street parking in the long run other than monies.
As for Bozeman in particular, I’ve been downtown regularly. Never have I had to drive around more than five or so minutes once reaching my destination to find a parking place. And, in doing so, I inevitably skip open spaces because I know I can find closer ones with just a tad of patience. Paid on-street parking is a solution looking for a problem.

I strongly oppose instituting paid parking downtown. It will be very damaging to downtown businesses and properties. I am majority owner of the Baxter and also the Bacchus Pub business.

If parking were always impossible to find, this may be warranted, but as of now, it's still possible to park nearby when needed. Don't add this burdensome headache and point of public conflict over inevitable parking fines just to collect a few extra bucks. Like others are saying, this isn't Seattle and hopefully never will be!
