Douglas Horse Tramway To Be Scrapped - Manx Residents Petition

I am concerned about losing our community's uniqueness

This important part of the islands history should be kept at all costs. The steam and electric services will suffer greatly if this link is removed.

A first class misser to close this unique attraction and historical important tramway.

Cannot believe you are doing this. Would gladly pay on the rates. Other alternatives - donations or Manx lottery tickets?

Council as usual only looking at the tramway in isolation. What about the losses in visitors to the island if the tramway closes. Sale of the stables can only happen once.

The council claims it must act with the interests of ratepayers in mind. It seems to me that keeping this unique horse tramway open was in the best interests of the ratepayers due to the visitors it attracts to the Isle of Man.

I was born here and have just returned after living across and I came back precisely because we have unique cultural things like the trams here!! Please, please don't let this fabulous, historic aspect of island life go. Getting rid of horse trams says nothing about progress. However, the ability of Government to MIX historic horse trams with our 21st century space and satellite industries; speaks volumes for the ability of Tynwald and the resourcefulness of the Manx! Don't throw away the trams wrongly in the name of 'progress'. Please find the will and then the money to hold firm to what makes IOM unique! Teresa Holton

The horse trams, and The Queen's Pier, are part of our Isle of Man heritage. All of our heritage belongs to all of the people of the Isle of Man and all of us should support each and every heritage by way of an all-Island rate, afterall it's a small Island and, no matter if we live out in the coutry or in the town, each of us can potentially is able to use any of the factilities. The MHKs of the IOM Government should represent us, the people of the IOM, and each of the MHKs should ensure that all of our heritage is protected and not lost. Ok, the horse trams are making a loss but most , or all of the rest of our heritage sites do too. SO DO NOT SCRAP THE HORSE TRAMS

You will be removing my reason for visiting the Island.

Douglas gets tourists because of its historic transport who would not come otherwise. Finding a solution to keep the historic mix in place is important to the economy of Douglas and the IOM in general.

This action must definitely not happen. The trams should be incorporated into the Island transport system, and be a part of a cohesive route for visitors and residents. It needs to be a valued part of a unique Victorian rail system, and promoted accordingly. There are thousands of people who love it, and it should be packaged into lovely holidays for many to enjoy. Win win for the Island and its economy, if it's marketed properly and targeted to the right people.

My family live on the island, and as a visitor to the island I am attracted by the traditional ways that the island have kept hold of. The horse and tram are a beautiful feature to a stunning Victorian beach front and promenade. It would be a star attraction lost.

The horse tram is part of us here on the island and I am prepared to help pay for it on my rates
