The horse tramway is part of the package of historic transport which many people visit the Isle of Man to enjoy and should be revered.

Having grown up on the Isle of Man I know how important this service is to the Manx public and visitors to the island. Hopefully common sense will prevail and the trams remain.

This is unbelievable. Obviously Douglas Corporation are blind to the uniqueness of the horse tramway as a tourist attraction, and that visitor numbers to the town are likely to drop without it. So they won't be saving money, they will be shooting themselves in the foot! They have done themselves no favours by reducing the service in recent years so it is no longer a "turn up and go" facility and therefore it is not surprising usage has dropped. Maybe Isle of Man Transport could be persuaded to take it off the council and make a go of it by providing a better service.

The trams are a key part of the Douglas sea front.
I was sad on my last visit to the island, that we came to early in the year, and the trams hadn't started running, my fault but the prom looked bare without them, this might become the norm.
Very sad.

An unbelievable decision by Douglas Corporation/the Manx Government! All age groups enjoy the Horse Tramway, which is one of the main Island tourist attractions that greets visitors to the town. Loss of the Tramway is indeed akin to San Francisco scrapping the cable-cars and questions the Island authorities commitment to the 'heritage' infrastructure that remains and has made the Island so attractive to visitors and residents alike.

It is vitally important that we not allow the caretaking of cultural heritage to fall victim to narrow-minded accounting principles. Not everything on this planet should be "run like a business" with the expectation of turning profit. The ancillary benefits to communities must be accounted for and, beyond even that, we must also remember to take into account the incredible importance of maintaining a connection to our past, to our stories. Sharing your cultural heritage with others by allowing them to experience your ways of being, increases understanding and a sense of shared humanity which in turn breeds tolerance and peace. As a cultural heritage professional, I hope this petition will help overturn this decision. We need these experiences in our world!

We visited IOM in 2014 and one of the highlights was the horse tram. This decision is very shortsighted and must be reversed

I have only three reasons to visit the Isle of Mann. The horse tramway which is unique in the world, the electric tram and the steam train. You are taking away one third of that..
