Keep this important tourist attraction alive

Shame.

I'm Manx and although I now live in England I would be devastated to see the horse trams go. They are such an important part of Manx heritage. The whole world is becoming harmogenised so we should be fighting to preserve our uniqueness. Please, it's too sad to alter the face of the prom this much. Don't strip away the essence of the island, celebrate it.

The horse trams are part of the charm of Douglas, and one of the things which encouraged me to visit the Isle of Man.

Has franchising the tramway been considered?

What a short-sighted attitude of the council which should be advocating tourism to the island, not ridding it of one of its unique attractions.

I wonder if anyone on the Douglas Council has calculated the loss of income to business in the town this decision will have. If my memory serves there was a report back in 2015 that indicated the value to the tourism industry of the Island that the manx transport heritage gave. The number of visitors coming to the Island solely to ride on the unique railways and tramways was considerable. To close such an asset to Douglas in it's 140th Anniversary year seems beyond belief. It is not only a loss to the Island, but a loss to the Northern Hemisphere as I believe the only other horse tramway offering a regular sevice is in Australia. Let us hope that it is not too late for this unique asset to be saved. I hope that either Manx National Heritage or Tynwald will recognise the international importance of this treasure and take over operation of the tramway before it's assets are sold off and lost to the Island for ever.

This so obviously must not be allowed to fail! Those responsible for IOM tourism and heritage must get their act together.

As someone who has visited the Isle of Man on numerous occasions l was sad to hear the decision to discontinue the horse trams. The horse trams are an irreplaceable feature, and along with the mountain and steam railways make a unique transport system. Where else in the world do you have steam trains a mountain railway and horse trams together. They are part of what makes the the Isle of Man different. Perhaps Douglas Corporation should think very carefully before discarding such an important part of the Isle of Mans heritage. Actions like this could impact heavily on tourism.

Why scrap a unique part of Island heritage? Invest in the things that make the IOM different and special! We are exresidents who have Manx born children who loved the horse teams!

The Horse Tram is to Douglas as the cable cars are to San Francisco. It puts Douglas on the map!

Why oh why would you scrap a major feature of the beautiful island? Do you want your economy to plummet?

Just hope that the council come to their senses and retain this historic attraction, its seems that just because people objected. To their plans for the seafront they then decided to get rid of it so they could do as they liked. Now they can really waste the ratepayers hard earnt money

It's the last horse tram in Europe, it's an insane decision to close it for few money!

Douglas wouldn't be the same without the unique trams. They chip away at all our cultures and in the end they'll be nothing left of beauty. Keep trams alive.
