As the costs involved with relocation of the tramway are prohibitive it seems that Douglas Corporation would rather press ahead with their "redevelopment" plans for the promenade and as the horse trams in their existing form play no part in those plans they are simply to be deleted. How extraordinary short sighted.

Loss of this historic and unique tramway would not only be regrettable it would be a disaster.
In addition this tramway is one of the elements in the attraction that brings in much revenue to the island from tourists, easy to loose tourists but very hard to get them back

Closure would be a tragedy and kill visits to the island. Tramway should be made a Manx national monument with proper financial support. .After 140 years it cannot be allowed to pass into history. Wiser counsels must prevail.

Unbelievable! We visited the Isle of Man for the first time two years ago and looked forward to returning this year; now we have second thoughts. Aren't the horse trams the main attraction of Douglas?

You cannot remove this incredible piece of national heritage! It's part of what makes the isle of Mann so iconic and special, and adds the sparkle of magic and unique life to Douglas prom, bringing in hundreds if not thousands of much needed tourists to to the beautiful island.

The IoM had one unique feature: a 139-year old horse tram on its seafront ! What a pity to destroy this fantastic piece of heritage which convinced me to visit the island twice ? With my best hopes for the staff and the horses.

It is part of the Manx travel experience. To get from the steam train station to the electric trams, you need to take the horse-drawn tram.

The team is part of what makes Douglas so different adding charm. Without it. Douglas will be just another seaside town.

My Sister and Brother in law live on IOM. Always enjoy a ride on the horse drawn tram when I visit them. Great shame if it goes.

Been coming to the IOM for 20 years and it's always a treat to go on the tram. Please don't scrap it :-(

I cannot believe you're even contemplating throwing away this unique piece of world heritage. It would be myopic in the extreme, and how much would it actually save when set against all the cash that's sloshing around the island. I've visited the island too many times to list over the last 54 years. Last year I used the horse trams a couple of times, and would have used them more but the timetable had been reduced almost to the point at which it was was quicker to walk. I urge you to reconsider.

I grew up on the Island and lived there during the 70s and 80s. It is a truely wonderful place that is completely unique. Some things are regarded as iconic and synonymous with the island. Losing the horse trams would be on parr with demolishing the Tower of Refuge.

My earliest memory of the Island is the horse drawn tram. Also a memory from my last visit. It's an institution, part of the scenery if you like and needs to remain so!

My husband and I visit the Isle of Man each year. I will certainly think twice about visiting again if there are no horse trams. I love the horses trotting along the front.

The IOM is unique in having much of its transport infrastructure "frozen" in time. This is the appeal of the island. Without the horse trams I won't come back and I will encourage others to do the same. It's a service that is synonymous with the island. It's all downhill from here!!!

Are they mad? Who are these small-minded councillors who haven't a clue? The IOM is tax haven.The banks are stuffed with money. So how about stumping up? Or are they so greedy that they cannot see beyond the end of their noses either.. I first rode that tram at the age of 16, my family lived on the IOM for a while, I last visited four years ago. Do not squander jewels like this. The IOM will live to regret this if this decision is not reversed

Very short sighted, once gone unlikely to be reopened, Just look inside the UK Trams have made a comeback in some cities with plans to reintroduce them in other towns & cities. New Railway lines rebuild & reopened after years of closure. British Rail was staved of money for decades and now its payback time costing 100's of millions of Pounds due to Government short-sighted-ness. I Say to the Manx Government look at it in the LONG term, when things improve tourists will visit & use the tramway.
